Registration is now open for the 2027 FIDE World Senior Team Championships, happening in Magdeburg, Germany from March 31 to April 11. FIDE, the German Chess Federation, and local organizers are inviting all member federations to enter teams.

The competition splits into four categories: Age 50+ Open, Age 50+ Women, Age 65+ Open, and Age 65+ Women. You only need to reach the required age sometime during 2027 to compete. No rating or title requirement exists. Women's sections will run if organizers receive at least 10 teams in each category.

Your national federation handles all registration. There's no cap on how many teams a single federation can field, but every player must hold membership in the same federation. This opens the door for countries to send multiple squads across different strength levels if they want.

The timing gives federations roughly two years to organize their rosters. For veteran players still competing seriously, this event offers a chance to represent their country at the world level without chasing rating milestones. The dual age divisions mean both active 50-year-olds and quieter 65+ players have their own competitive brackets.
