Nodirbek Abdusattorov is the 2026 Tata Steel champion. The 22-year-old Uzbek finished on 10/13, winning the tournament by a full point ahead of Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana, both on 9/13.
The title run was as convincing as any in recent Tata Steel history. Abdusattorov won his direct clash with Carlsen in round ten, the decisive moment of the tournament, then took three of the final four games to close it out. He conceded only three draws in the entire event.
The Uzbek GM has now won five super-tournaments in the last eighteen months. He is ranked in the world's top five and currently playing the best chess of his life. Carlsen and Caruana both performed well, but neither matched his consistency. Gukesh, defending champion, struggled to a negative score.
Abdusattorov thanked his trainer and the Uzbekistan chess federation after the closing ceremony. The federation has invested heavily in its top players over the past three years, producing results that no one outside Uzbekistan quite anticipated. The Prague Chess Festival is next on his calendar.
